Camping (sorta) in the middle of Mississippi!

Published in on by Lindsay

Recently, I went with the illustrious James Hornsby to a family reunion at Yogi on the Lake campgrounds in Pelahatchie, Mississippi. I’ve never actually been camping before, so it was pretty exciting! Well, I guess technically I still haven’t been camping, since we were all staying in a cabin with a kitchen, beds, and indoor plumbing. BUT IT WAS MADE OF LOGS! So that counts for something.

We slept in the loft, which was kinda like being a tree house if the tree house was on the ground and had an upper level that was a loft. 🙂 There was a lovely view of the lake, and possibly an otter that was hanging out in it waaaay out in the middle.

Also, I realize I’m much too influenced by Jurassic Park movies, as the Canadian Geese reminded me a lot of Velociraptors. Mostly because they would appear out of nowhere, surround you, and stalk you if they suspected you had food you might consider throwing them (Or that you WERE THE FOOD MAYBE?!).

There's another goose somewhere. Watching. WAITING.

When we weren’t visiting family, we wandered about the nice campgrounds and posed in front of giant Yogi Bears…who for some reason had a picnic basket full of flowers instead of snacks. Totally not canon with Yogi cartoons.

Yogi made sure to have a tight grip on his basket, even though the flowers don't look super edible.

Overall, it was a pretty rad weekend! Maybe we’ll end up back down there again one day, and replace the flower-filled picnic baskets with actual food for Giant Yogi.

Dinosaur Dressup means RAR RAR RAR!

Dinosaur Dressup means RAR RAR RAR!

I happen to be a super nerdy fan of Jurassic Park. Essentially, I’ve been a super nerdy fan of dinosaurs since I was 5 or so, and when Jurassic Park was released when I was going into the 3rd grade, I begged my dad to take me, even though I knew the PG-13 rating was probably going to work against me. We did go to the movie, but I had to promise I wouldn’t have nightmares (I didn’t, ha-HA!) Anyhow, that tangent is to let you know that I’m SUPER DUPER MEGA-PUMPED for Jurassic World to hit theaters and turn me back into that super excited 3rd grader. Because Chris Pratt is friends with raptors and 3rd grade (and current-aged me) would love to do that. My excitement for this movie leaked into drawing a new coloring page when I decided Lydia and Fizzlebit would experiment with the idea of dressing as dinosaurs to take over the world. And maybe they also did it to have fun, who knows? 🙂

I wish I had a fun story regarding camping in the backyard, but I never really did that as a kid. S’mores, however, are quite delicious, and the next time I have a yard, I probably will make a point to have some s’mores in it. Don’t forget: if you missed last month’s coloring pages or any others, you can see all of them right here!
